Laura Papaleo is a researcher in collaboration with the Group of Geometric Modeling and Computer Graphics and the VicoLab at the the Department of Computer Science, University of Genova.
She took her Laurea in Computer Science (cum laude) at the University of Catania in 1998 and her Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2004 at the University of Genova. Since 2000, she has been successfully involved in many National and International Research projects dealing with multimedia content analysis, structuring, searching and retrieval. Since 2005 she established a research in collaboration with Jim Hendler (RPI, NY usa) - one of the inventors of Semantic Web - on the integration and evolution of Semantic Web and 3D Shape Modeling.
Her current interests span from Digital shape provenance, structuring and reasoning to Semantic Web, Ontology design and evolution, Open Government Data and HCI evolution for the web 3.0. If interested, see her publications.

Research Interests :Semantic Web, Open Government Data, Multimedia Annotation, Uncertainty in Modeling digital representations, Fuzzy Modeling, Web services, Cutting Edge Technologies.

Jan, 2013: The Handbook of Metadata, Semantics and Ontologies has been published and available for online shoppping, with the chapter "Introduction to XML and its Applications" by L. Papaleo. Eds. Dr. Miguel-Angel Sicilia, World Scientific Pub Co Inc.

Aug-Nov, 2011: Invited research visitor at the Tetherless World Constellation (TWC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) exploring the research and engineering principles that underlie the Web with particular attention to Open Government Data and HCI issues for visualizing massive and complex information on the web.

September, 2011 : The paper "PLE and PLN experience evaluation using 3D visualization indications" has been successfully presented to the International Workshop on Challenges in Evaluating Educative Experiences of Flexible and Personal Learning Environments, in Palermo (ITA). In collaboration with F. Di Cerbo and G. Dodero - Free University of Bozen.

January, 2011 : The paper "Agents and Ontologies for Understanding and Preserving the Rock Art of Mount Bego" has been successfully presented to the International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence (ICAART 2011). Rome, 28-30 January 2011 (short paper section). In collaboration with G. Quercini, V. Mascardi, M. Ancona, A. Traverso.

November, 2010: Participating to the Eurographics Italian Chapter Conference, EGIT2010 - Palazzo Rosso Genova. Presenting the paper "Manual Segmentation and Semantic-based Hierarchical Tagging of 3D models" written in collaboration with L. De Floriani. Presenting also a poster on "Developing a Web 3.0 E-learning Portal with X3D Technologies" in collaboration with F. Di Cerbo and G. Dodero from the Free University of Bozen.
