Overview
I am assistant professor in Computer
Science (ricercatore confermato INF/01) at the Dipartimento di
Informatica e Scienze dell'Informazione, Università degli Studi di
Genova. I carry out my research activity within the slipguru
group where I lead the computer vision area.
My research interests are in the fields of Computer Vision and Machine Learning. My recent works have been on theory and algorithms for classification, feature selection and data analysis; study and development of methods for object and event detection and recognition in images and image sequences; design and development of applications in the fields of video-surveillance, biometrics and computer vision for Entry Descent and Landing (EDL); design and development of object and action recognition models with application to robotics.
I have been involved in a number of research and technology transfer projects. Recently I was RTD coordinator of the EU 7FP project VIT, "Vision for Innovative Transport" and scientific coordinator of two technology transfer contracts with Thales Alenia spa and Gigavision srl. Currently I am involved in the EU 7FP IP project SAFEPOST.
I teach "Introduction to Programming" first degree on Computer Science and and "Signal and Image Processing" and "Computer Vision" for the master degree on Computer Science respectively. Since 2008 I hold a PhD course on "Regularization methods for high dimensional learning" with Lorenzo Rosasco.
In
october 2012 I have co-organized the School "La Visione delle
Macchine" (Machine Vision).
