POETIC TOUCH

Vietri (from "Veteri", its ancient Roman name) sul Mare ("on sea") is located within walking distance from Salerno and marks the beginning of the Amalfi coast. Short rides take to Positano, Sorrento, Pompei, Herculaneum, Paestum, Vesuvius, or by boat, the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida. Velia (the ancient "Elea" of Zeno and Parmenide) is a hundred kilometers farther down along the coast.

HOW-TO REACH VIETRI SUL MARE (Hotel La Lucertola or IIASS)

Journey A: From Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) to Vietri sul Mare

A1. From Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) to Roma Railway Main Station (Roma Termini)

You may reach Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) from the Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) by train; a taxi is not recommended because of the distance. The Railway Station is inside the Airport. Take the train to Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini): you can buy the ticketat the FS office (about 9,00 Euro) and must stamp it  at the yellow machines before getting on the train. At the same office you can also buy the ticket from Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).

Remember to stamp the ticket at the yellow machines BEFORE getting on the train.

A2. From Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)

Once in Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) get a train to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).

 A3. From Salerno Railway  Station to Vietri sul Mare

Journey B:  From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Vietri sul Mare

 
B1. From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale)

At Naples Airport (Capodichino) you may take the bus (orange bus) just in front of the Airport entrance (every 15 minutes): the tickets (about 1,00 Euro) are sold inside the Airport at the newsagents. You have to get down at "Piazza Garibaldi" (Garibaldi Square) and walk a little bit through the square towards the Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale).
Another possibility is to take a taxi.

B2. From Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)

Once in Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale) get a train to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).

A3. From Salerno Railway  Station to Vietri sul Mare

Journey C: From Salerno Railway Station to Vietri sul Mare

C1.  Bus from Salerno Railway Station to Vietri-Piazza Matteotti 

Take bus n. 4 (final destination of the bus: Pompei) [time  6:05 => 22:45, every 20-30 min]   or bus n. 9 (final destination of the bus: Siano) [time  6:05 => 22:45] from Salerno Railway Station Square to Vietri. 

You can buy the ticket (about 1,00 Euro) at the railway station's newsagents or at the CSTP office.  Get down at the second bus stop in Vietri and go to Piazza Matteotti (Matteotti Square). It is about 200 meters from the bus stop.

C2. Bus fromVietri-Piazza Matteotti to Vietri-Marina (Hotel and IIASS)

When in "Piazza Matteotti" (Matteotti Square), take the local  bus [8:00 => 21:00] to Vietri Marina. You can  buy the ticket (about 0,50 Euro)  at the newspaper shop. 
In about 5 minutes you will reach the bus stop just in front of the hotel La Lucertola. Next stop is just near to IIASS.

Another possibility is to take a taxi at the cost of about 13,00 Euro from Salerno Railway Station Square directly to the Hotel or IIASS.
