OpenGL doc in HTML

Welcome to the homepage of the OpenGL HTML-documentation. Here you find the complete OpenGL reference pages as taken from the ``blue'' book: OpenGL Reference Manual -- The Official Reference Document for OpenGL, Release 1, by the OpenGL Architecture Review Board, Addison-Wesley, first release 1992, ISBN 0-201-63276-4, converted to HTML.

It includes the documentation for the gl*-commands, the glu*-utility-library and the glX*-X-extension for OpenGL.

Additional info

There are several things you should know about these pages, please take the time to read this section at least at the first time you come here.

What is OpenGL?

According to the ``red'' book, (OpenGL Programming Guide -- The Official Guide to Learning OpenGL, Release 1, by the OpenGL Architecture Review Board, namely by Jackie Neider, Tom Davis and Mason Woo, Addison-Wesley, first release 1993, ISBN 0-201-63274-8), OpenGL is
``... a software interface to graphics hardware. This interface consists of about 120 distinct commands, which you use to specify the objects and operations needed to produce interactive three-dimensional applications ...

OpenGL is designed as a streamlined, hardware-independent interface to be implemented on many different hardware platforms ...''

Version

This documentation is about OpenGL V1.0. It is written after the ``blue'' book and the OpenGL-manpages coming wit IRIX 5.3. I have tried to include some things from the manpages which seem to have become part of the standard but excluded all SGI-features, namely everything with SGI_ or _EXT in it.

Therefore it may be wise to consult your systems documentation if you have doubt about the accuracy of this document. I will try hard to keep up with the standard, but this is done in my spare time, so don't expect updates every other week.

Your own copy

If you want to have your own copy of these pages, you can get them too. You need to have a filesystem which allows for mixed-case and ``long'' filenames to install the pages and need ``perl'' and UNIX's ``grep'' to run the search engine. Thus, I'm afraid it's not of great use for DOS-ers. Sorry.

Please drop me an email if you download the pages, so I have an idea about who uses this and who wants to be informed of updates.
