Giovanna Guerrini received a Laurea degree (cum laude) in Information Science in 1993 and a PhD in Computer Science in 1998, both from the University of Genova, Italy. Since 2005 she is associate professor at the same university. Previously, she had been associate professor at the University of Pisa (2001-2005) and assistant professor at the University of Genova (1996-2001).
Her research activity has been carried out in the database area, and has recently focused on semi-structured and XML data handling, with specific interests in issues concerning data heterogeneity, approximate retrieval, and problems in data sources integration and evolution. Previously, main research interests included object-oriented databases, reactive behavior specification, and (spatio-)temporal data handling at different temporal granularities. On these topoics, she participated in research projects both at European and Italian levels.
She is currently serving as General Chair for EDBT/ICDT 2103 (Genova, March 2013) and as Program Co-Chair for ADBIS 2013. She served as Conference Chair for ECOOP 2009 (Genova, July 2009), and as Organizing Chair for the Italian database conference SEBD 2009 (Camogli, June 2009) amd as PC member of international conferences and symposia, including ECOOP, ACM OOPSLA, EDBT, ACM CIKM, DEXA, APWeb, WAIM, ADBIS, XSym and on the Review board for the Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment, VLDB "journal track". She co-organized the Object Database Workshop at ECOOP'99 and ECOOP'00, the DataX workshop at EDBT'04, EDBT'06 and EDBT'08 and the Updates and XML workshop at EDBT/ICDT 2010.
