Dodero Jubilee 2000
Boccadasse, Genova, Italy
10-13 June 2000

Boccadasse was a small fishermen's village a few miles east of the city of Genova; there are parish records and other documents testifying the presence of a family named Dodero (or variations like Dondero, Odero, Oddero,…) since the 10th century. The Dodero families in 1706 founded the church of Sant'Antonio da Padova in the village, which still stands facing the sea.

Presently the village is surrounded by the expanding city, yet it is still untouched in its structure and atmosphere.

Many of the Dodero families still live in Boccadasse or in the city of Genova, but many more are scattered across the world, as other emigrants from Italy in the 19th and early 20th century, in the Americas, Australia, and elsewhere. The beginning of the 21st century has become the occasion for a gathering of all the Doderos in the world in the family's birthplace, Boccadasse. The day of the Dodero Jubilee is of course the day of the Patron, Sant'Antonio, June 13.

The idea of the Jubilee has so far attracted the patronage of the City of Genova, the Province of Genova, the Regional Government of Liguria, and the sponsorship of the most important local newspaper, Il Secolo XIX, where some reports of the planned initiatives have already been published.

The events are being organized by a non-profit organization, Pro Loco Maris Boccadasse, where many members are Dodero (or related to them). The organization aims at the environmental protection of the unique architecture of Boccadasse, and the preservation of local traditions, compatible with the life of locals and the visits from tourists.

Looking for the lost Doderos:
