Leila De Floriani
- She received the Laurea degree in Mathematics from the University
of Genova in 1977.
- From 1977 to 1981 she has been a Research Associate at the Institute
of Applied Mathematics of the Italian National Research Council, Genova, Italy, and from 1981 to 1982 an Assistant Professor of Computer Scienceat the University of Genova. From 1982 to 1990 she has been a Senior
Scientist at the Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Italian National Research Council
- In 1981 she was a visiting associate professor at the Departmentof Computer Science of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE (USA). Between
1985 and 1989 she has been a visiting scientist at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA). In 1998-99 and in 2002 she has been visiting professor at the Computer Science Department and at the Institute forApplied Computer Studies (UMIACS) of the University of Maryland, CollegePark, MD (USA).
- Leila De Floriani has written over 170 technical publications on the subjects of geometric modeling, computer graphics, algorithms and data structures for spatial data handling and graph-theoretic data structures. Her former contributions include hierarchical modular boundary models for CAD applications, graph-based techniques for form feature extraction and surface
modeling with triangle meshes. Her present research interests include multiresolution
modeling, geometric algorithms and data structures for applications to Scientific
Data Visualization, Solid Modeling, Geographic Information Systems and Computer Vision
(see Geometric Modeling
and Computer Graphics group home page) .
- She has received several research
grants fromthe National Research Council of Italy (CNR), from the Italian Ministry of Science and Scientific and Technological Research (MURST),
and from the European Community to perform research in the above areas.
She has been the national coordinator of a project funded by MURST on "Representing and Processing Spatial Data in Geographic Information
Systems" (2001-2002). She is currently involved in the Research Training
Network MINGLE (Multiresolution in Geometric Modeling) and in the national
MURST project MACROGeo (Algorithmic and Computational Methods for
Geometric Object Representation).
