Title: Finite-dimensional wavelet spaces

Abstract. In this introductory lecture, we will discuss the basic elements of a classical multiresolution analysis defined on the real axis, and see how they need to be adapted when changing the setting to a bounded interval. The discussion includes the corresponding filterbank algorithms and their matrix-based versions for the finite-dimensional setting. Examples from terrain modelling will be provided.
