Template for Research Proposal

It is highly recommended that the proposal is prepared with the aid of a computer (e.g. using Word or Latex). It could include mathematical formulas, pictures, tables as deemed appropriate. The proposal cannot exceed 10 pages, the word limits specified below are only indicative, clarity and conciseness should be the main criteria.

MOTIVATIONS, GOALS and EXPERIENCES - at most 500 words

What are your reasons for undertaking graduate studies? You may wish to discuss past work in your area of research interest and related fields, your plans for a professional career, or how you developed your interest in or knowledge in computer science.

What experiences that you have had you feel have prepared you to pursue a PhD degree?

TITLE of the Research Proposal

This proposal allows to identify a possible line of research that you might pursue, e.g. because you find it particularly exciting or because you have the appropriate skills and background knowledge. The proposal is not binding, you have to identify a topic for your PhD research only at the end of the first year, when you submit the thesis proposal.

CONTEXT and STATE OF THE ART - at most 1000 words

Place the proposed research within the setting of one (or more) Research Themes that you have selected. For instance, what is the problem addressed by the proposal, why is it significant?

Describe the state of the art which is relevant for the research proposal. For instance, results or techniques that you plan to exploit, or that you plan to improve.

OBJECTIVES and EXPECTED RESULTS - at most 1000 words

Here you could mention also methods, techniques, results that you expect to exploit to achieve the objectives.

BIBLIOGRAPHY - at most 500 words

List bibliographic references relevant for describing the research proposal. Label each item in the list (e.g. with a number) to make citations possible.
