CTCS'97, 4-6 September 1997:
Travel Information
Santa Margherita Ligure is located about 30 Km east of Genova on the
railway line Genova-Pisa.
Participants are adviced to reach Genova Brignole railway station, and
then take a train to Santa Margherita.
The frequency of trains vary from half-an-hour to one hour depending
on the time of the day. The trip takes about 20 minutes and costs
about 5000 Italian Lira.
By plane
The nearest airport is Genova airport, which is connected to
the main European cities.
To reach Brignole railway station from the airport, you can either
take a taxi or a shuttle bus.
- A taxi takes about 20 minutes, and will cost about 30000 Italian
Lira.
- The shuttle bus, called VOLABUS, leaves in coincidence with (a
group of) flight arrivals, and often waits if a flight is late.
The bus takes about 30-35 minutes to reach Brignole, which is the last
stop (do not get off at intermediate stops). It costs about 5000 Italian
Lira, and the bus ticket is sold on board.
Another possibility is to use one of Milano airports: Milano
Linate (10 Km from city center) or Milano Malpensa (46 Km
from city center).
Both of them are connected to Milano Centrale railway station by
regular shuttle buses (bus ticket are sold on board).
From Milano Centrale there are InterCity trains to Genova almost every
hour, the journey takes less than two hours. Few of them may stop
also to Santa Margherita.
By train
Genova has two main railway stations Piazza Principe and Brignole: the former
is located in the western area of the city, the latter in the eastern
area.
Some trains from Milano and Torino stop only at Piazza Principe (i.e. those
not going to Pisa). However Brignole station can be reached from
Piazza Principe station in few minutes by taking any eastbound train.
- Intercity trains (IC) have an extra cost, specify the train you
are going to take when buying the ticket.
- All train tickets must be passed through yellow machines that you
will find in all stations. Don't forget it! These machines are
usually located in the hall and underground passages of railway
stations.
By car
Take the motorway A12 (Genova-Livorno) and exit at Rapallo. Then
follow indications for Santa Margherita-Portofino.
Participants lodged at Hotel Regina Elena may use the parking area of
the hotel without charge.
The conference venue is located at about 1 km from the railway station
of Santa Margherita, along the road to Portofino:
